What do you base your faith on?
The members of Family of Christ are neighbors of yours who feel the stress in our busy complicated lives, feel sadness in our relationships with others, feel anger in our daily interactions, experience sickness and health-related complications, and face the death of family and friends.
Yet, we know that there is relief, hope, joy, healing, purpose, and eternal life in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is the message and opportunity we want to share with you.
Jesus answered, "I am the Way and the Truth and the Life..." John 14:18
Family Of Christ believes that the work of the Christian church is to be mission oriented, its "FOCus" is to be in mission and its purpose is to spread the word of God to the un-churched and de-churched in northwest Rochester.
What is your model for your mission
In order to find a model for its mission, Family of Christ first looks to Christ our Savior. The Father sent him in order that the Love of God may be known through Him. So in the same way Family of Christ sees themselves as "Touching lives with the Love of Christ" and to share this love with those who have not heard or felt its lasting effects. Jesus Christ tells us "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations… " Matt 28:19, Family of Christ intends to do just that by reaching out to their community. Family of Christ believes that one fact is true; people in the world,today are discovering that time with family members is becoming harder and harder to find.
By stressing the values of a family friendly FOCus, the case can be made that Family of Christ is centered in the right place. By getting people in, sharing God's good news, and showing them God's grace; Family of Christ can positively impact people and their families. It is far and away the best way to reach the new residents of northwest Rochester.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
What is Family of Christ Communion Statement
The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod believes that Scripture teaches that the Lord's Supper is a precious gift of God in which Christ gives us His true body and blood (in a miraculous way), together with the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. Because the Bible teaches that this sacrament may also be spiritually harmful if misused, the LCMS ordinarily communes only those who have been instructed in the teachings of our church and who have confessed their faith in these teachings.
When we ask some of our guests not to commune at our altars, some may conclude that we are "unfriendly." However, we want all to know that we have a genuine interest and concern for all who join us for worship at Family of Christ. The Lord's Supper is both a gift and a sign of unity. We hope you will come to see that we do what we do not because we are unfriendly but because of what we firmly believe.
The Trinity
The Holy Trinity-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three persons in one God;
- The Father, creator of all that exists;
- Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan;
- Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God's Word and Sacraments.
- The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.
The Bible
The Bible was inspired by God and without errors.
The teachings of Martin Luther
We accept and teach Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three short phrases: "Grace alone," " Faith alone," "Scripture alone."
- Grace alone; God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.
- Faith alone; By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.
- Scripture alone; The Bible is God's inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.
- The Gifts of Baptism (infant and adult) and the Lord's Supper (the blood and body is transformed into Christ): as ways to receive forgiveness and strengthen faith.
What is Grace?
We are sinners who are saved by the work of Jesus Christ dying on the cross and arising from the dead. Nothing we can do will get us into Haven.
Who is Jesus?
Simply stated, we believe, teach and confess that in Christ alone is salvation-by grace alone, faith alone and based on the Bible alone.
- For more than 2,000 years people have asked the question, "Who is Jesus?". We were not present when Jesus lived on this earth, but in the Bible we have the record of his birth, life, death on the cross, and resurrection. Study of the Bible, God's Word, will enable you to seek out the answer to this age-old question.
What our logo means
The logo represents the family encompassed by the Father (dark outer ring), Son (white middle ring) and Holy Spirit (colored inner circle enveloping the people).
The people of our Church Family make an inner cross symbolizing who we follow.
The white outer cross is made up of directional arrows that point to all the ends of the earth where we are reaching out to with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
This logo emphasizes eternal life in the three interlocking circles (The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).
The small directional points coming out from the global circle make a cross and also symbolize the ministry of outreach for Family of Christ. (Denoting that we want to spread the message of Christ to the ends of the earth)
